Upon discovering The Lost Boys at a thrift store one day, I was really excited to watch this movie. This movie is a horror-comedy movie that focuses on the idea of vampires living in the same world as everyone else. This movie, directed by Joel Schumacher and stars Kiefer Sutherland, was released in 1987 and has two movies that follow behind it as well as a musical that is currently being worked on.
The movie follows two boys named Michael and Sam as they move to Santa Carla from Phoenix, Arizona. The main character, Michael, finds himself involved with a group of boys called The Lost Boys, who take Michael into their group and turn him into one of them. One of the main concepts of the movie is choice. Throughout the story, Michael is thrown into scenarios where he is manipulated into making the wrong decisions that could hurt him in the end. When he finally makes a choice for himself, he is able to free himself from the group entirely. The movie’s visuals are amazing, and the character designs are also detailed. The Lost Boys are easily identifiable due to how they dress and how different all of them are. The characters are also very lively and show each personality of the characters very well.
Along with the idea of choice, the movie also goes into detail about how a person’s life can influence what a person does in their life. For example, Michael is drawn to the Lost Boys because of his life situations. The Lost Boys are the people that Michael goes to because he feels comfortable around these boys, despite how terrible of an influence they are to him. When he finally realizes how bad these boys are to him, he decides to leave them behind.
For those interested in a movie involving vampires set in the 1950s, please watch The Lost Boys. The two movies that follow behind it are The Lost Boys; The Tribe and The Lost Boys; The Thirst. This movie can be found on many different versions, including VHS tapes, dvds, and on streaming services such as Prime Video or HBO Max.
