Around May 1 each year, students who have a GPA from the first three quarters that places them among the 20 highest students in their grade get a breakfast during the first couple periods of their morning. This year, on Friday, May 1, these 80 students–four classes with the 20 top students–ate a warm breakfast made by the lunch ladies on lunch heroes day. Each student got to invite up to two family memebers. Students achieving the Honors Breakfast get a certificate for their excillence, and seniors who have had four consecutive years get an Honors pin to wear for graduation.
Ellie Grim, a junior at Hamburg, shared how this is her second breakfast, and she looks forward to it because she “likes to see all the pretty outfits,” along with “getting recognitions for achievements is awesome!” She looks forward to eating the fruit every year. Her advice is to use any time during the school day to do any assignments, as it is harder to get things done outside; especially for music students like herself.
Annamarie Karasek, a senior at Hamburg, shared it was her first honors breakfast. She was super excited to hang out with people, and she shared how she was “excited to spend the morning with her mother.” She said how “some teachers may be challenging, but if everyone just perserveres, people will get to the honors breakfast by perservering.”
Other advice students in the Honors Breakfast had was to “study for tests and complete assignments on time,” which was from Maya Fultz, “perservere through all hard times and difficult aspects,” shared by Harrison Mast, and “stick around academically inclined people who are thoughtful and care about being more than just ‘cool kids,'” which Emma Moylan stated.
