On February 20, Hamburg Area High School hosted the third annual Charity Basketball game. This game took place in the new gym of the high school along with many clubs selling items in the old gym. The teachers from the middle school took on teachers in the high school, along with a few elementary teachers. The high school team ended up winning against the middle school team. The charity that we were raising money for was Blessed Beginnings, which helps people transition from domestic homes and helps them get a jump start on life.
There were 450 people who attended this event and we raised $3,000 and collected 357 cans to be donated to Blessed Beginnings and food pantry. There were many clubs that also participated including; Student Council, who sold pizza, water, and shirts, Math Honor Society, who sold buffalo chicken dip, National Honor Society who sold hot dogs, TriM, who sold waffles and ice cream, Students Helping Students, who sold walking tacos, and many more.
Student Council organized this whole entire event, with committee chair Kyla Rogers doing an amazing job running the committee. “Everything went smoothly and everyone who attended seemed to have a good time,” said Kyla. Student Council officers and other committee chairs also put in a lot of effort into making this event. “This event had such a great atmosphere,” said Jocelyn Sprentall. This event is all for such a great cause and has such an impact on many individuals. “I think the event was very organized and had very good food,” said Kimberly Summers. Overall this was a great event and such a good way to raise money for charity that does so much for people who need it.
