In September of 1987 a sitcom directed by Jeff Franklin premiered on air that would transcend decades and be part of childhoods for multiple generations. The show premiered on ABC in the middle of the comedy craze, where sitcoms were all the rage and families were looking for something to sit down and watch together. It was an instant hit with both adults and children alike. The emotions that came through on the screen were loved by all that watched. It proved to stand the test of time because the life lessons have also stood the test of time.
While there were laughs, there were also episodes that go deep into issues that are still prevalent today, such as the episode where DJ who is played by Candace Cameron develops an eating disorder. Throughout the episode it shows how teenagers, younger siblings and parents can navigate it. Among some of the other notable episodes is the episode where Stephanie’s, played by Jodie Sweeten, classmate was being abused by their father and how to handle that at such a young age and finally the episode dealing with grandparent death.
These are all things that still happen no matter how much time has passed between the premier date and now and lessons that are still front and center. Much like other shows of its kind, Full House has also lasted the test of time because of the nostalgia it brings. People love to sit down and go back in time for them where things were not as hard and they can feel like they’re reliving their childhood and young adulthood. It brings a sense of comfort to those.
