Koa Binder – 11
Every year the Drama Club puts on a showcase. What was traditionally held at the Strand in Hamburg and called the “Drama Showcase” has now evolved into the “Drama Revue” held in the high school auditorium. About 50 people attended and donations were accepted at the entrance to the stage that will go towards the Drama Club. This change was first made last school year with Mr. Nate Rothermel taking the role as Drama Club’s new advisor after the retirement of Mr. Barry Driesbach.
This year, more changes were made, with the seats being set up on the stage in a black box theatre way. They were in a square with space made in the middle for the performers. Memorable performances include Landon Poulios, who sang “When I Grow Up” from Matilda, Koa Binder, who sang “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahantas, Ellie Grim and Sophia Garretson who sang “Stepsisters’ Lament” from Cinderella, and one monologue performed by Lily Borkey. Senior Alondra Perez Cruz states, “I messed up my song a little at the beginning but it overall went really well. My duet with Koa was also really good, and I loved being able to support my friends while they sang.”
At the end of the night Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Dowd sang a duet of “Naughty” from Matilda and then announced that the spring musical for next year would be Matilda. Landon says, “I am so excited for this musical because it is going to be my senior year musical and the end of my high school musical career. I can’t wait!”
