The drama showcase is an upcoming event happening at the Hamburg Area High School Auditorium on March 27 at seven PM. The event will be hosted in a revue format, which means a series of light, theatrical performances like shorter songs, sketches, and dances, but also includes other artistic performances students may want to do.
Mr. Nate, the person in charge of directing the drama show, has stated this is his second year of doing the drama show, though these have been done annually for the past several years. Mr. Nate believes that students should attend since the showcase is a great opportunity to see multiple unique musical performances, and to also support the work of some of our HAHS students. Students will “be entertained with a variety of different songs from multiple shows, all in one night,” said Mr. Nate. Mr. Nate also says that the beauty of the drama showcase is how it shows its students first, since students get to choose what they perform, and then get to take guidance, with some aid in blocking and choreography.
Freshman Lily Yoder, one of our students performing for the drama showcase, will be doing three performances; a song from Ride the Cyclone, a dark comedy musical about six Canadian teens that died in a rollercoaster accident, and are now stuck in limbo and must sing for their potential freedom, the song “I Could Talk to You All Night” from The Outsiders, a musical rendition of the book with the same name made by S. E. Hinton, and Pearl’s monologue from Pearl, a movie about a woman trapped in Texas during the Spanish Flu who killed her parents to try and pursue her dreams of being a movie star, which drove her into a violent madness. Lily has stated that they don’t care too heavily on what others will think of their performance, and want to do it for themselves, and to “just be creative and have fun.” Lily also stated that she hopes everyone will have a great time and she can make a notable contribution to the show. Lily can not think of anybody else who would go to the drama showcase, however, she would appreciate it if people out of the school did and she believes it would also be a lot of fun.
