The VMAs, or MTV Video Music Awards, is an annual awards show that celebrates the best in music videos and pop culture. It has become known for its performances, bold fashion choices, and unexpected moments. Artists from various genres compete for the iconic Moonperson trophies in categories like Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Best New Artist. The event typically features live performances from top artists. Over the years, the VMAs have also been known for memorable pop culture moments, such as Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift and Beyoncé announcing her pregnancy. While the award show section is a very important part, a fan’s favorite is the red carpet where people can see who is going to be at the award show and what they are going to be wearing.
Sophomore Dakota Schneider tuned in to this year’s VMAs and had plenty to say. As a longtime viewer of the show, Dakota has been able to compare and contrast the differences over the years. While Dakota was watching celebrities walk by on the red carpet, some caught her eye more than others. The outfit that caught her eye the most was Chappell Roan’s. “It most definitely fits her whole vibe and honestly was just super cute,” Dakota said with enthusiasm. Not all fashion choices impressed Dakota though. She was less thrilled by Katy Perry’s look, comparing it to a “Halloween party costume.” “It is almost as if Katy was trying to go to a Halloween party dressed as a mummy but ended up at the VMAs by mistake,” Dakota exclaimed.
One of the standout moments for Dakota was Chappell Roan’s performance, which Dakota praised for its unique stage design and Chappell’s bold outfit choices. However, not every performance lived up to Dakota’s expectations. She was less impressed with Camila Cabello’s set, feeling that Camila’s stage presence could have been stronger. “Her energy just was not there, and to be honest, her music does not really resonate with me,” Dakota added. Dakota’s dream would be to attend the VMAs in person, as she feels it’s the most dramatic and exciting award show, and experiencing it firsthand would be unforgettable.
