Last week I was able to buy the book titled The Hybrid Prince. This book is a fantasy adventure book that features dragons. This is a new release that was published in February. The book may be part of a larger series, but this is the first book to a separate piece of the story. The writing style is simplistic, yet the message behind the story is detailed and precise.
The book follows a dragon named Umber. His sister has trauma from a war that happened, and struggles to accept that the war is over. While Umber and his sister are escaping their homeland, Umber meets a prince named Prince Mulberry. Umber and his sister are finding refuge on an island that is called the Court of Refuge where they are thrown into a sequence of events where both of them find out that the king and queen of the Court of Refuge are hiding terrible secrets.
This book was originally intended to be for middle schoolers to early high school students. While this may be the case, the book has a lot of great examples from the real world to help drive the story. This story goes into detail on how unfair systems are in the world and how everything is not what it seems to be. The story also goes into detail on how the main character overcomes the systems and helps the dragons free themselves from an unfair system. The book also dives into the concept of control and how characters such as Mulberry struggle to be themselves due to said control over them. The character designs are also really great for this story. These characters range from all different kinds of colors and combinations and the design of all of these characters make the story unique and interesting.
If ever interested in reading this story, find Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland. This book is one of 16 books in the series. The first book in the series is called The Dragonet Prophecy.
