Chase Brodhead – 11
The Moment has recently come out in theaters, and I loved it. It is about Charli XCX during the highest time of her career, the BRAT era. It shows what it actually feels like when your whole life suddenly becomes a huge trend and everyone is watching you. The movie is filmed like a documentary, which makes it feel really real, as if the viewer is seeing what happens behind the scenes instead of something that is fully scripted. I liked this a lot because it made her feel more like a normal person and not just a pop star.
A big part of the movie is about how fast fame can move and how many people are trying to tell her what to do. Charli’s label, team, and fans all expect different things from her, which can be overwhelming when trying to fulfill them while still staying true to herself. Not only does it focus on the music, it also shows the work that goes into everything else like the draft ideas, touring, and keeping up with the image that has been created.
I went to see the new movie with my good friend Dakota Schneider and we both loved it. We both agreed that one great thing about the movie is that it does not sugar coat the celebrity type life. It includes things that are actually relatable to a generic person. It made the movie feel less of a movie just about a singer and more about mental health and trying to fulfill oneself while still maintaining a successful career.
The way everything comes together near the end is really good and makes the movie worth watching without knowing what happens. I would recommend The Moment to anyone who likes Charli XCX, pop culture, or movies that feel different from normal music documentaries. Charli XCX’s album Brat was her most successful album ever, and truly made history with the younger generation and I believe deserved this type of movie mockumentary.
