On January 4, 1967 the psychedelic rock band from Venice, Los Angeles, California The Doors made rock history by releasing their first album. Each song on the album is vastly different from the other and was unlike anything the world had ever seen before. Jim Morrison, the lead singer, was only 23 years old at the time. As a child he was very educated and often wrote poetry too which is seen throughout the album’s lyrics.
In my opinion, the main component that makes The Doors so unique is the keyboard aspect of each song. While each song sounds very different, Ray Manzarek features a keyboard solo in a lot of them. Without this, The Doors would have blended in more to the other bands of the time. This album also brought their most famous hit, “Light My Fire” which also happened to be the reason Morrison was kicked off of the Ed Sullivan show due to him forgetting to censor the lyrics. Sullivan then announced he would never let them perform again on his show and pulled them from the air.
Another unique part of the album is the song. “Alabama Song” contrary to popular belief it was actually a cover of a song from a 1927 opera. For more information visit https://thedoors.com/.
