On November 15, I was able to experience my first college visit to Mansfield University. I was pretty excited for this trip, but also nervous. I was nervous because of the fact that I was gonna meet some high tech teachers and learn about life at a college. From Hamburg to Mansfield, it is a roughly three hour drive. While heading North to this college, there are many different sights to see on the route. Mansfield is located in a mountainous region by the New York and Pennsylvania border. If somebody goes to this college, they will be able to go to New York.
Upon arriving at the school, I entered the fitness center located near the entrance road to the college. The fitness center is a college’s form of a gym. I got to meet professors and teachers and I got to talk about my future and what I would like to do after college. I got to meet many other staff while in this building. I was also able to check out the many clubs and learn about the student run activities such as The Flashlight, which is a publishing group in Mansfield University.
My next part of my trip was a presentation made by the financial aid department at the college. They spoke to us about scholarships and how to apply for them. This school gives students many different scholarships for each of the different majors. If somebody majors in English, they will be given a scholarship for that major. Along with information for scholarships, the finance department also told us that this school has the least amount of money needed for the school.
After the presentation, I was led to the building for all the English classes. There, I was able to see what the classrooms looked like and how they are built. Meeting the professor, I was able to talk about how the classes looked and how student life is going to be. One thing I learned is that because Mansfield is a smaller school, people can make up their schedules. Bigger schools like Millersville may allow a student to adjust their schedule a little, but not fully.
For people who are looking into college ideas, I would suggest Mansfield. The place is small and spacious, and people will not be just a number if they go to this school.
