This year we celebrated Kyla Rogers for her senior night for the girls Hamburg Area High school women’s basketball. With tears of grievance from the season, came even more tears of joy. Kyla was a captain along with Norah Davey and Kaylea Detweiler. They ran a spectacular team with excitement and commitment. The girls worked every time they were in the gym or weight room. They spent countless hours together, bonding and learning from each other. This built a dynamic squad. The starting line up was Aleana Cox, Kyla Rodgers, Ashay Kamper, Kaylea Detweiler, and Norah Davey. The girls had some tough games, some good some bad, bad at the end of the night they still went home as a team. They rode the best together, sang together, ate together, and built a family. Of course we can not let it all up to the girls, but the wonderful coaches Mrs. Mcbreen, who announced her pregnancy this season! Brittney Resh, the assistant varsity coach, and Jordan Rentchler, the JV team coach, are like 3 peas in a pod. On top of it all fellow junior Landon Poulis became the girls team manager. All three coaches combined have said, “I’m going to miss this season, but we’re gonna work as hard as we can this summer.” As some girls are not committed to coming back, the ones that are will be hard working and determined to work for their skills.
During the summer and off season, the girls are open to so many opportunities. Mrs. McBreen sent out a detailed email describing all these offers. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays there is strength training with Mr. Reinhardt, until 4 at the high school
As for actual work in the gym, Mondays from 4-5:30 will be skill work and focus on the fundamentals. The girls love their summer league, which some dates are still undecided however it is starting June 8-July 4. The coaches also host the Youth Basketball Camp on June 8-12 from 9:30-12. If the girls come to help out, this gives them an opportunity to be reimbursed $100 for whatever shoes they buy. Another summer league tournament is Cedar Beach on July 24-27. This is most definitely a fan favorite. Over all, the majority of the girls loved their season, and enjoyed themselves. Sports are not always the most amazing thing to be doing, but when one is with the right people, it does not matter how bad it may be. The girls are an amazing example and they can not wait to return!
