This year, the 2026 Winter Olympics were held in Italy from February 6 to the 22. The Winter Olympics are held every four years. The United States won 33 medals overall and came in second place. Most of the world would consider the Olympics, no matter the season, to be some of the most important sporting events.
Students seem to be less interested in the Olympics due to their busy schedules and lack of interest in them. Senior Bethany Stufflet summed up why teenagers tend not be as into the Olympics. She explained that the Olympics are “not that exciting, also [many students are] busy when it was on or didn’t want to watch it.” This seems to show that students tend to worry about school work more and would rather watch more shows or movies that have more interesting topics.
Some students, like Rylee Strunk, did watch the Olympics. She really enjoyed watching the skating events as their moves correlated to a lot of dances that she does for dance. So it seems that for the students who did watch the Olympics, they watched them because they had a similar interest in an event or they did the same event.
Overall, the common theme that is seen by many students is that some either watch one that matches their interests, or they do not watch them at all. The next Olympics will be the summer ones, which will be held in Los Angeles, California, in 2028.
