The regular education that students have been taught every day works very well. Everyone gets a good lesson in the main core subjects, and there is nothing wrong with that. There are even electives that students can choose from to present a more comprehensive performance. There could be a bigger picture presented instead of just the bare minimum of what the students need to learn. Conversations could discuss more than what students think; this could translate into a reality that students and even staff should be aware of.
Preston Jones, a freshman student, mentions that if classes did prioritize deeper learning, it would not be with politics, but history or science. In today’s scenario, politics is brought up within everyday news, but Jones has not focused on that topic. “With history, it is good to learn and have a deeper understanding of how history has shaped the world we live in today,” Jones continued to say. While Jones is aware that history is a big part of an actual core, he feels there is more to it that is not pondered on.
Another freshman student, Noelle Bowen, brings up how real-life scenarios should be discussed more often in school. People may believe there is less to the world than there actually is, and it is nice to raise awareness on how to handle situations in life. Some topics may even be avoided in class, as these could be classified as vulgar or sensitive to speak up about, even though it could be true that is happening. It does not make it wrong to be avoided, but students may get curious one day and need to talk to someone about an issue. Bowen speaks up about how diversity can be shown around the world, “This would prepare students more for the future and topics with diversity, so students can be exposed to more cultures rather than just their own.” This was a very important thing to think and consider about, which may have other people wondering, hopefully someday.
There could be some considerations to actually talk among the students about more than the lessons that are being taught every day, and it could make a positive change. For example, instead of remarking on students failing, which could lead to fear, that could help these students understand that failure is part of growth. No part of the world or any experience is going to be easy or perfect, and that is the real part of learning. People can be uneducated on certain topics, and it never hurts to try to bring something new to life that should be heard. It will always be towards respect as well, and there may be debates whether a current or future topic is in agreement or not. There is always something new to think about with an expanding education system.
