Jocelynn Sprentall – 9
Girls wrestling continues to grow at HAHS, and this season we are celebrating our only senior, Raynee Dunleavy. She is a dedicated athlete who is taking her skills to college with her. After graduation, Raynee will continue wrestling with the Cedar Crest wrestling team or attend Penn State to study criminal justice.
Raynee first got involved in wrestling thanks to Shelia Kern, who encouraged her to join the sport.
One moment that stood out to her from senior night was getting injured. After almost winning her match, she unfortunately dislocated her knee.
One of the most important lessons Raynee says she will carry with her after high school is learning to be comfortable being uncomfortable, a mindset that applies onto the mat and everyday. She credits Coach Jason as a huge influence, stating that he consistently pushed her past limits she did not think she could reach.
When asked about her favorite wrestling memory, Raynee shared her experience at the Girls Tamaqua Tournament, where she earned second place at her second ever tournament.
If Raynee had to describe her wrestling journey in just one word, she would choose “confusing”, a reminder that growth does not always choose a straight path, but every challenge helps shape who they become. We are excited to see what she accomplishes next and wish her the best of luck as she countries wrestling at the college level.
