The Hamburg boys wrestling team has faced highs and lows this season but on January 10 the boys went to their county tournament. Sophomore, Elijah Dickerscheid wrestled in the 160 pound weight class and got the 4th place spot. Elijah knows he has to work on setting up his shots and wrestling like “I deserve to be there” and tends to get into his head and it tends to mess with his confidence. Another sophomore, Logan Warke had wrestled in the 133 pound weight class and secured the 6th place spot. Logan’s improvements lie at his bottom movement and feels like he needs to be less “sporadic” even though he knows his neutral was good and and had good self control
Elijah’s performance was not something he was and was not happy about and believes his mindset was not right within his last match but he was still happy with his performance. Logan added that he was not happy with his performance and his mindset but wants to highly improve for later matches. He also knows that within his mindset he would rather “lose now then in more important matches” because it forces him to want to improve. Elijah knows it will help him going forward because he is ranked 4th in the county and he is proud because he is a 3rd year wrestler who is beating kids that have been wrestling for awhile.
Overall both wrestlers think that the team did good. Logan shared that the team wrestled well but overall needs to make some more improvements. Elijah explained that the team did really well and “took a step forward” from the beginning of the season and improved much more, and included that many guys showed out for their team and worked their moves as they should have. He also loved to see his teammates wrestle tough and just enjoyed being there. The boys wrestling team’s season is drawing closer to an end which is making the team work even harder than before.
