After two weeks of staying at home and sleeping in for winter break, students have to go back to school. It can be hard for some students to get back into the swing of things because of the sudden shift in routine. It is hard to focus if students are used to relaxing all day. Especially if their sleep schedule is bad, it can make things twice as hard to get back on track since they have to wake up for school early.
Another thing that can be hard for students is finding motivation to do work. When students come back and are used to how lenient the break was, their standards for work can be low, and that can cause them to fall behind.
Freshman Harry Flores Garrido says the hardest part of coming back is leaving his bed in the morning. He feels less stressed coming back. Advice he would give to peers to help stay on track is to just focus on school. The best part of coming back for him is socializing with peers after not seeing them for a while.
Freshman Christopher Martinez says the hardest part of coming back for him is leaving his family. This is because of how much he was with them all break. He feels less stressed after coming back. Advice he would give to get back on track for school is not get distracted. The best part of coming back for him is seeing his friends after a bit and seeing what all is new.
Even if they come back not focused, students still prove every year that it is possible to bounce back, even if their grades are low. With support from peers and teachers, students are able to get back on track more easily.
While winter break may be over with about half the school year left to go, it is important to stay on track with assignments. Especially for upperclassmen getting ready to choose if they want to go to college, grades can be really important so they get accepted, and if they are unfocused, they will not be able to do their best with schoolwork.
