Thanksgiving is a holiday to celebrate harvest and to be grateful for many different things. Students look forward to Thanksgiving each year, not only because of the break from school but also because of the food it comes with. Many students were asked what their favorite Thanksgiving dishes are, a wide variety of answers were shared. On one end, stuffing macaroni and cheese were tied as the most popular choices close following was ham. Freshman, Kimberly Summers said ham is her favorite dish because as she explained, “It is a yearly tradition” in her family.
Traditional side dishes also played a big role in student choices. Mashed potatoes also follow closely behind showing students enjoying the classic comfort foods that come with thanksgiving. Some other examples include turkey, pie, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, rolls, green bean casserole, and gravy.
Overall, students at HAHS enjoy many different types of food on Thanksgiving, from savory dishes to sweet desserts. These results show that while everyonemay have different favorites, food is an important part of how students celebrate and spend time with family during the holiday.
