The Hamburg boys wrestling team kicked off the first official practice of the PIAA wrestling season. The energy in the room was great, picking up where the team left off last season. Coach Maurer ran the wrestling drills and conditioning to help the students work hard and push themselves. He set the tone for the season and what is to come as the year progresses.
The team had perfect attendance for the first practice, which is one of the keys to developing a strong program. “Attending practice allows you to get better one percent every day,” said Mr. Maurer, Hamburg head wrestling coach. He emphasized the importance of showing up every day. Someone must put in the effort to come to practice for themselves and for the benefit of the team. Only then can a wrestler truly experience the sport for its true purpose.
Wrestling is a sport designed to be enjoyable. The coaching staff prioritizes making sure the team has fun while wrestling their best. This is essential for everyone to enjoy the sport and to give their full effort. The team’s goals were highlighted at the beginning of the season. The team aims to teach newcomers and build on the progress made by last year’s returners. The staff is invested in creating the best team possible, making practices and matches meaningful. They hope to have a memorable season for the seniors while continuing to build the program for younger, less experienced wrestlers.
