As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, HASD students take on yet another way to share thanks. As we utilize thanksgiving to be used for a time of gratefulness, and appreciation, students reflect this to their peers too. Friendsgiving is a substitution for Thanksgiving, where friends come over to a hosted dinner, except there is a twist. Each individual will arrive at the dinner with their own specific dish and the group of friends will feast on the wide variety of different foods, and maybe try some different cultural cuisines.
Schuylkill Haven student, Anthony, is hosting his own Friendsgiving. However, upon asking some of the students invited to the dinner, they have planned to bring different flavors to the table. Chelsey Oviedo talks about a Dominican dish involving chicken and rice.
While planning for Friendsgiving, use Google sheets, Google form, and Spotify. Taking a deep dive into the foundations of this event is obviously who is bringing what. Google sheets make it really easy to place everyone under their own column and label what they have chosen to bring. Going hand in hand with that would be the google forms. Creating a Google form for an option of dishes to bring, would reduce stress, and reduce any hassle or duplicates. Then Spotify can be shared with friends, or even create a jam, so it can then organize everyone’s favorite tunes.
Now this event is not only about enjoying amazing food and being grateful. But to show why we are grateful and there is no better way to do that rather than laughing with friends. The human body laughs as a reaction because we cannot contain excitement. What better way than to play some Thanksgiving games. For example: heads up or an alternative, The Bowl.
The Bowl would involve writing down words on slips of paper. Then divide into teams and play three rounds: say anything to get the team to guess the word, act out the word, and then say only one word to get the team to guess, basically a non-digital version of Heads Up. Hopefully this made planning for a Friendsgiving easier.
