Each autumn, the small town of Hamburg participates in the King Frost Parade. On October 25th around 6pm, students of HAHS have the opportunity to participate in this tradition. Some students rode on a float, hay ride, and cars, while others walked playing instruments, giving out candy, and performing. According to visitpaamerica, the parade has been called “a harvest parade.” Many people take part in this annual tradition like pep band, cheer, football, and local businesses. The King Frost Parade started in 1910 organized by Jack Walker. The parade initially served as a community gathering event for Halloween and harvest time. Although in the 1940s the parade stopped due to traffic issues and other big events, it was later revived in 1964. Kim Summers stated that there were “many things they had to offer, it was fun. I go every year and it’s a fun tradition for the town of Hamburg.”
This 2025 season there was a lot of inclusion, most were Halloween themed as well as King Frost on his throne at the very beginning following Santa at the end. Some floats even give out candy, have mascots, and perform. Overall this parade is an important tradition to the town of Hamburg and brings all sorts of people together to celebrate.
