RAM is a form of memory for computers and is an essential part of a computer. But some of the global RAM is going towards AI Datacenters, places that train AI.
Since late 2024, lots of 32GB RAM of all types have been going more to AI Datacenters. There were steady inclines in prices on RAM and devices, but nothing like what the market is going through recently. Starting around early December, the prices of RAM, especially HBM (High Bandwidth Memory), have gone up higher than ever before. HBM is most important in gaming computers, as this memory is used for higher performance. Having a higher performance allows computers to run faster and more efficiently.
This situation forces companies like Samsung, Apple, Nvidia, and many more to raise the prices on their products to combat the increasing cost of RAM. Along with this, it will make it harder for people to build customized gaming PCs, which always used to be cheaper than purchasing a pre-built one.
