Hamburg is helping students in the best ways it can with SAP groups. These groups support the social aspect of a healthy student and let peers help each other through their problems. This encourages students to reach out and find what works for them, as well as a safe space that allows people to connect. Groups run for one through 10 weeks on Tuesdays and switch to another group for all participants.
The versatility of peer groups is where this support thrives. The list comprises 10 different options for any group that suits the needs of an individual. Some examples would be anger management, grief and loss, resiliency, ect. These categories all fall together in trying to help the students benefit from what they struggle with the most.
Hamburg Area High School has many specialists and positions that support the students in many different ways. Talking and communicating are the best ways for most to get their problems out and solved.
“The support of proper communication in Hamburg builds a better environment,” said Mrs. Getz, SAP specialist. Creating a positive atmosphere over time is the goal for these SAP groups and an outstanding idea. The understanding of each student and their problems allows one another to connect and stand out, one day at a time. This communication between students and staff can build relationships to send everyone into the real world. Students may still sign up for a peer group by turning in a group permission form.
