Our Hamburg Area High School counselor is partnering with Mrs. Texter: a fellow English teacher, and Mr. Heagle: former English teacher, now history teacher. These staff members have arranged a meeting to be held in Mrs. Texter’s room: 11B, to discuss importances of colleges. Although this is fairly new, the first meeting was dedicated to becoming comfortable, aware, and mainly to ask questions. A suggestion was made to bring in other staff from different colleges to hold a conversation table around the room. Something to break through obstacles, and so students can have a one on one conversation with a school they might attend.
If you had students who would like to attend the next contact Mrs. Wyles-Herbert:[email protected] or Mrs. Texter: [email protected] . Meetings will be held every day 3 of the cycle during flex period. This can be used as a time to ask questions, ask for advice, talk about scholarships, and much more. This meeting targets first-generation college students, hence it is hard to find guidance in a college journey without a role model. Mrs. Texter even says, “I graduated college myself, and I find myself struggling with guiding my son in his college journey.”
This space is utilized to make students comfortable with a huge life decision. Around the room pens and pencils moved to write notes upon community college or long term, applications, grants, and even college living situations. All questions are valued and meaningful, for the person we sit aside may be thinking the same thing. Join Mrs. Wyles Herbert during day 3 to discuss a future and a plan.
