The field hockey team’s season came to an end on October 10 at the Hawk Hill stadium. The girls played in the hot sun and in the freezing rain. The last home game approached fast. Senior night is a way to congratulate the seniors.
The underclassmen arrived at the field at 4 pm to start decorating for their teams senior night. By hanging streamers and taping the railings and benches with red and white streamers. A huge sign and posters were made. Every senior gets to put their name and the year they graduated on the back of the huge H.
Pictures were taken before Tulpehocken arrived. The teams warmed up and introduced the starting line up: Kylah Reading as center midfield, Kaylee Hoshauer as right midfield, Avery Benson as left forward, Kayla Kehl as right defense, and Cadence Jalbert as left midfield. The first whistle starts the game.
Kayla Kehl, one of the seniors that led us to victory, felt amazing at the beginning of the game. She was pumped that it was finally her turn to have a senior night dedicated to her because she watched as all the other seniors before her get recognized for their dedication to the sport. It was the seniors last home game and for Kayla it was an emotional event. She fought back tears while the coach was giving the final home game break down speech. Kayla hopes that all the players that played with her continue to play and work hard next year. She says her teammates made her senior year the best one yet.
Kaylee Hoshauer was feeling happy, excited and pumped to play at the start of the game. This senior night was dedicated to her and her fellow seniors to show their love for the sport. Kaylee has been playing for a very long time and now it has come to an end and her high school seasons are over. Everything has come to an end so she felt a bittersweet feeling because she loves to play field hockey, she knew that was the last time she would get to play on hawk hill. She would like to say to her teammates that they all have lots of skill, just to keep all their heads up and push through the hard times. Never give up, and keep moving forward, and that’s for everything on and off the field, they are so much more and can do so much more than they might think. She says it has been an honor playing with every single person on the team. And she is sad that she is leaving but she believes in all of her teammates to keep going, and to continue to keep playing as well as she knows they all can, continue to get better, and make goals that will challenge all of them.
Avery Benson felt good at the beginning of the game. She knew they would beat Tulpehocken and the energy was there, everyone seemed happy to her. As Avery guessed the girls did win and she was so happy that they got a win on the biggest event during the season. She did get emotional thinking that it was going to be her second to last game. Also, when she looked at her poster the girls made her she could not help but cry thinking about never playing the sport again. She says that this was definitely the best 4 years she could ask for, she had so many good times and memories. She is going to miss the girls so much. It makes her sad knowing she will not be playing another season but she knows the girls are going to have an amazing season yet again and she knows they can get to the playoffs. She believes in the team and is proud of each and every one of them. She loves all the girls so very much and she could not express that enough.
Cadence Jalbert got to play in her very first varsity game on senior night. She thought it was nice to start on varsity especially because it was her first time ever starting. This was her first and last year of high school field hockey. Even though every other senior was fighting back water works Cadence said she did not feel emotional. She said that she was happy to play but because she was not on the team for as long as everyone else she did not feel sad. Cadence did form many bonds with her teammates and her teammates were so happy that they got to practice with her. She would like to tell her teammates to never give up in whatever they do. They are all amazing and talented in their own ways. Do not let the actions of other people defy their own judgment of themselves. A little tip she would like to give for the future is to leave the drama out of practice and away from games. Save it for another time. She thinks that is what really tore the team apart at times. She says she will definitely miss the sport. And she really wishes she had started sooner. She definitely made some friends along the way. and she would not trade the experience she had for the world.
The victory felt great to everyone on the team. A 4-0 victory on senior night is an amazing way to end the occasion. At the end of the game it was very emotional on the sideline. Even though the seniors were trying hard to hide it, their teary eyes were shimmering in the lights. This was the seniors last senior night and the coach’s. Coach Kandice is moving to Florida with her family and would like to tell her players never give up, always be relentless, and never settle.
