Daylight savings time occurs in the spring on the second Sunday in March every year and ends on the first Sunday in November. Many places utilize daylight savings like North America and Europe, but also Argentina, Cuba, New Zealand, and Haiti are other places that use daylight savings. There are two states that do not utilize daylight savings: Arizona and Hawaii.

Daylight savings was first introduced in 1916 in Germany during World War I and the original purpose was to conserve energy resources. Today, daylight savings serves the purpose of maximizing sunlight in the Northern hemisphere.

When sophomore, Keira Withelder, was asked how she felt about daylight savings she stated, “I like daylight savings because during the fall I get an extra hour to sleep. I really enjoy sleeping so an extra hour is lovely.”

Another sophomore, Grace Cromyak, had a different take when asked and replied, “I really like daylight savings time because sometimes there needs to be a break in time where we can have a change.” Overall, daylight savings is something that many people are excited about for many reasons.
