Haitian jewelry sale

Haitian jewelry sale

Carlee Stitzel

Mrs. Heckman, Mu Alpha Theta advisor, started this fundraiser Several years ago she met a woman who volunteered for the Apparent Project, and Mrs. Heckman had visited Haiti. Mrs. Heckman says “She returned with beautiful jewelry and ornaments that she was selling on behalf of the Haitian artists.  The following year, I contacted the Apparent Project on behalf of Hamburg’s Mu Alpha Theta Mathematical Honor Society and inquired about a jewelry and ornaments fundraiser.”

Haitian jewelry is handmade by artisans in Haiti. More than half of our selling price gets sent to the artisans who made the items. Their money will go towards food for their families, maintain a safe home and be able to send their children to school. The metal ornaments are made from recycled 55-gallon oil drums.  The jewelry is made from recycled cereal boxes.

HAHS can help these kids by purchasing jewelry and ornaments. Mrs. Heckman emails all students with information about the fundraiser and gives each student the opportunity to schedule a time to see the items if they are interested. They also sell to teachers from each building after school.

Ornaments for $10 Bracelets for $10, necklaces for $12, keychains for $8 and earrings for $7.
