The Hamburg Area Middle School team won against the high school team on Friday, February 21, at the Charity basketball game with a score of 57-36. They were on top of their game, scoring 3’s and easy layup passes. High school was in big trouble with at least a 10 point difference, but luckily they came back up. Overall it was a fast paced game with some cool shots and great teamwork.
The charity basketball game committee of the student council worked hard for months to plan this second annual fundraising event. The committee dedicated every day six flex periods to planning the game.
The committee chose Blessed Beginnings, which is a non-profit organization that helps individuals and their families get a jumpstart on their new life after abuse, and was picked to get the donation. Local businesses contributed for a raffle. STUCO members also had a food drive. Students brought canned goods to earn free entry to the game, and others got $1 off the $5 admission.
In between quarters and halftime, there were games like knockout, musical chairs, and King of the Court. HAHS clubs had stands in the old gym to sell their items, many also donating a percentage of their sales to Blessed Beginnings, making the grand total donation $2500.
