Student Council is a club at Hamburg Area High School and a student organization. Mrs. McCarthy has been the advisor for almost nine years, since the spring of 2014. Any students currently enrolled in school (grades 9–12) had the option to sign up for Student Council.

Student council leads pep-rallies, spirit days, school dances, fundraisers, and many more events and activities. Mrs. McCarthy thinks that student council is important to bring students together and unite the student body. She states that student council offers students the opportunity to become leaders and set an example for their fellow peers. “Student council gives students the chance to create something and see it through,” McCarthy says. Students are able to come up with an idea and lead that project. McCarthy says that “student council members are the voice of the students. The club raises strong, independent students who want to get things done instead of waiting around to be told to do them.”

Students who do not participate in the club can help to support the school’s student council members by actively engaging and participating in the club’s activities and fundraisers. Mrs. McCarthy says that she would like to see students in the club come up with their own ideas and participate more in activities.

Student Council is incredibly important to Hamburg Area High School; however, if something were to happen to the club, Mrs. McCarthy thinks that other teachers would help to take over the important activities run by the student council currently.
