Socktoberfest inspired Hamburg

Socktoberfest+inspired+Hamburg

Socktoberfest started in 2011 to raise awareness of the homeless. A guy named Brad Montagure took notice of the vast amount of homeless people living in his town. He is a very kind-hearted man so he took action to help. Socks are the least donated items to homeless shelters so that is how Socktoberfest was created.

This year Hamburg Area High School is taking part in Socktoberfest. On September 22 Students wore their crazy socks and sandals to participate in Socktoberfest. Socktoberfest is during the whole month of October, and all people have to do is donate socks. The socks will be donated to the New Roads homeless shelter youth program. Frau Stevens hopes to see a bunch of socks and sandals, along with socks donated.

If students donate a pair of unused socks to Frau Stevens, they are then allowed to attend the Alex Meixner concert. Alex Meixner is a German musician who has performed in the Hormel pepperoni commercial back in 2016, and is in a band. The concert will be held on September 28. “I think it’s neat for the students to come together to help people out, especially when it’s something funny, like socks,” Frau Stevens said.
