    Teacher spotlight: Mrs. Kline

    Teacher+spotlight%3A+Mrs.+Kline

Mrs. Kline is a fantastic teacher in both the high school and the middle school. She is the concert band, jazz band, and marching band director, and she also teaches a music theory class. Mrs. Kline attended Penn State University for her Bachelor of Science in Music Education K-12 and Temple University for her Music Master in Oboe performance. She has been teaching for 13 years. Prior to her time in Hamburg Area High School, Mrs. Kline worked as a long term substitute at Hollidaysburg Area School District and the Altoona Area School District. She also worked as a substitute for State College Area School District and as an oboe teacher through the Music Academy in State College. She worked as a general music and choir teacher at Tilden Elementary before moving to the high school and middle school to direct the band.
It is often difficult to know exactly what to do as a career when the choice needs to be made at such a young age. Mrs. Kline expresses, “I knew I always wanted to be a musician, but I’m so glad that music education worked its way into my life. I’m grateful for the opportunity to teach students.” The feeling is mutual among her students. Clayton Lash, a senior who has Mrs. Kline for music theory, concert band, jazz band, and marching band states, “She is so supportive of all of her students and is always there for you. She is also just so fun to have as a director.”
Mrs. Kline’s favorite thing about teaching is the connections she gets to make with her students and being able to watch them grow as musicians and people. As for the most rewarding part of her job, Mrs. Kline concludes, “As a teacher, you always hope that your work and passion for your subject is passed on to the next generation as it was passed on to you! Just knowing that there’s a possibility that I might be contributing to that continuation of music…it’s a good, rewarding feeling.” Mrs. Kline’s hopes to pass music on to the next generation are coming true with senior Cadence Jalbert who states, “Mrs. Kline is super kind and understanding. She loves to share her passion for music with others. If it wasn’t for her I probably would have never stuck this far with band or even have the thought of doing it in college.”
Mrs. Kline is an inspiration to her many students and always tries her best to provide them with a welcoming and comfortable environment in which they can grow into fantastic people and musicians. Consider joining the band or taking Mrs. Kline’s music theory class next year!
