The wellness trip to Leaser Lake is a annual event for seniors at Hamburg Area High School, created by Ms. Kelly in 2018. The lake is located in New Tripoli about 25 minutes away from the high school. The event is just big enough to host the senior class but just small enough to keep everyone safe. The day consists of six stations each lasting 35 minutes, with a 30 minute lunch break. Only seniors can attend the Leaser Lake trip and most do. Over 75% of the class participates. Seniors get to do multiple activities outside with their classmates. Some of the activities are kayaking, hiking, and cycling. The overall goal of Leaser Lake is to create healthy lifestyle tips for students.
Ms. Kelly’s favorite activity is paddleboarding. Students tend to love kayaking first, followed by Paddleboard. Those are the two most popular selections when students rank their activities. Hiking is also popular along with archery.
Seniors ranked activities they would be interested in out of ten, ten being the worst while one being the best and the one activity they wanted to do most such as cycling, stand up paddle boarding, or even fly fishing.
My first activity was art everyone got to draw and do diamond art while watching the lake. My second activity was hiking which was led by teachers Mrs. Texter and Mrs. Bucheit. My third activity was snack where we got to make a diy trail mix, with ingredients like M&Ms, peanuts, and sunflower seeds. My fourth activity was kayaking which was my personal favorite. Students did a lap around an island in Leaser Lake. I also participated in yoga and yard games. For every activity they truly included every student, which made everything very enjoyable.
Overall I would recommend this senior trip to the class of 2026. Personally I enjoyed this and the activities we did. It was very nice to be outside and not in the classroom for the day, a very nice change of pace. Many other students would agree with this, everyone seemed very tired by the end of it but overall from what I saw everyone enjoyed it.
