Berks Career & Technology Center is a program founded in 1968 and has been partnered with Hamburg for over 50 years. BCTC helps students learn more about their chosen career path. If a student were to join BCTC they would have many choices as to what they want to learn. BCTC has 35 career programs separated into seven total groups; transportation, services, healthcare, engineering & manufacture, communications, business & information technology.
Recently, Mrs. Del Conte organized a panel about BCTC and its opportunities, getting the help from Mrs. Fink, Mrs. Freiwald, and Mr. McGinley. They were inspired by collage panels that would be held by students, thinking it would be helpful to hear another student’s experience rather than an adult explaining roughly what they would do. The first panel was held August 28 for freshmen.
Instead of staying in their homeroom for an extended amount of time on Thursdays, freshmen have been sent down to the cafe to attend the informational panel about BCTC. They held these panels to inform the new students about the potential of BCTC and what joining it can do to help their career path.
Lyla Perez-Torres, a freshman who attended these panels, thinks the BCTC panels were a good way to tell freshmen what the program has to offer.
