The transition from middle school to high school can be nerve racking for many students, but not everything about making the move is scary. High school is full of new opportunities and lots of other great things. Two students that had to make the tough transition this year found many positives in their first few days of school.
“In high school I feel like there is more independence. For example the teachers give us multiple assignments that are due at different times, but they can count on us to get it done on time. They also give more leeway then they did in middle school and aren’t always monitoring us or watching our every move,” said ninth grade student Maya Fultz.
Electives are limitless. In high school there are many classes for what students are interested in and what they want to try out. There are so many possibilities to figure out if they like something or not. In middle school students had a small variety of electives, but now there are so many. Students can go from taking an art class like ceramics, and 3D design, all the way to doing sports and entertainment marketing. It is truly amazing to get the chance to see how many new hobbies one can discover and enjoy at Hamburg Area High School.
Going along with new things to discover and many options Greta Fink said, “ There are more opportunities to pursue what you want and clubs are a great way to meet new people, do something fun, and figure out if a certain club is the right fit for you.” Many people enjoy high school, and by the end of it have a better idea of what they want to do with their life even if it might be scary and nerve racking at times.
