Movie review: A Man Called Otto
February 8, 2023
A Man Called Otto is a new movie that was released on January 13, 2023. It is about a man; Otto, who’s wife died and it is centered around his struggle with depression after this tramautic event. He is always acting crabby and is not a very good person. Otto lives in a development area and acts as the keeper of it, making sure everything is clean and safe. A new family moves in across the street from him so naturally he gets to know them. They are very happy and upbeat people and heavily contrast his pessimistic personality. The movie also dives into Otto’s past and viewers see his relationship with his wife Sonya. A Man Called Otto is a mix of a comedy and a romance. There are several sections that make watchers laugh but it is also supposed to be the sad story of Otto and his wife.
The main character Otto is played by Tom Hanks. Another important character, the mother of the family that lives across from him, is played by Mariana Treviño. The director is Marc Forster, who also directed the movie Christopher Robin. A Man Called Otto is based on a book written by Fredrik Backman, A Man Called Ove.
This film entertained me the entire way through; it was interesting and there were barely any lulls in the plot. It was pretty funny and I enjoyed the sense of humor. This movie is a spinoff from a Swedish movie that is based off of a book written by Fredrik Backman, A Man Called Ove. Both movies are very similar in the plot and overall I would rate this movie a 7/10.
