The Java Jam! A great event hosted at the Hamburg Area High School, and full of live entertainment, music, singing, and a great time for friends and family to gather and relax. This year Java Jam will be hosted on Thursday December 8th, beginning at 6:30 PM in the high school library. Occurring for the second year, Java Jam was organized by Mr. Laughlin, Mrs. McCarthy, and Mr. Haegele.
Students throughout the high school are not fully aware of what Java Jam really is. Mr. Haegele states, “Java Jam is a coffee house experience, with drinks and snacks, where students and faculty can come together to enjoy live music performances and have a fun relaxing evening with their friends. This will be our second year holding it here in Hamburg. I had taken the idea and name from my own high school as we used to have our own Java Jam every spring. While in high school, I had performed with a few different bands that I was in outside of school.” The first Java Jam that was hosted was last school year around springtime.

Mr. Laughlin said, “We had about 80 people in attendance.” Mr Haegele added, “Everyone last year who came seemed to be having a good time as they were able to relax with food and snacks, while sitting in comfy chairs, and supporting their friends and favorite teachers as they performed for everyone.”
The Java Jam offers students opportunities to celebrate their music and or talents. The atmosphere is not threatening like being on a stage it is small and cozy and it offers a relaxing informal setting. He also said that anyone can participate as people support each other by joining in on an instrument or maybe they may be a backup singer. “This year we are hoping for students to be even more creative and participate by showing off their artwork or maybe even poetry that they’ve written. Sometimes I play the guitar as back up. sometimes there may be a duet with someone singing and another playing a guitar or another instrument.”
The Java Jam is a great opportunity for students to hang out with friends and establish relationships. Java Jam not only allows gives students the opportunity to share their talents for a scheduled event, but it also gives them the opportunity to do something that is not available within the Hamburg community. This is a great opportunity for all students to participate in to showcase their talents in an informal setting.
