Freshmen visit BCTC

Freshmen visit BCTC

Sadie Haines, Business Manager

On Wednesday October 12, from 8:15 AM to 10:45 AM 9th grade students who were interested in going to BCTC their sophomore year had the option to go on a field trip to the west campus. They picked two shops they wanted to visit.

BCTC is a program that allows students 10 – 12 grades to enhance their education by studying extra curriculum that might be able to help them go straight into the workforce or a trade school. BCTC stands for Berks Career and Technology Center. There are many things students can study at BCTC. The application process to get into BCTC is fairly simple. Students can go to the website below and under the student section find the “Apply to BCTC page”. They then select their school and fill out the form. Students need to print two teacher recommendation forms and the teachers will send a copy to the school counselor. There is an application essay that needs to be completed as well. This should be sent to the school counselor and then the student has to fill out the BCTC Admissions Agreement with a parent or guardian. Applications to BCTC are due by mid-December for the first round of selections. Students can visit the school counselor for more information about BCTC and help with their applications.      Student Maile Bentz enjoyed her trip to BCTC. She chose the video and media shop and advertising art and design technology shops. In the video and media shop, they got to see a real student at BCTC working with the equipment. In the art and design technology shops, they got to look at things students have designed themselves. This field trip is a great way for students to see if BCTC is something they would like to consider participating in in the future.
