School is often viewed as difficult because it is designed to challenge students and expand their minds. However there are standard subjects that most people view as harder than others, for example math vs. social studies.

Although each student has his/her own opinion about which school subject challenges him/her the most, this can also differ based on school. Different schools have slightly different curriculums, and that slight change can make a big difference. The difficulty of a class can depend on many different variables: the way it is taught, how each student learns, grading system and the level of class.

Overall science is the most difficult subject according to HAHS students. 31% of Hamburg students voted for science as the most difficult subject with math as a class runner up (26.4%). English follows behind with 21% of students. Social studies is the last of the core classes with 12.6% of the students choosing it as the hardest subject.

There were also select students who chose other classes such as art or music.
