Paul changes HAHS

Paul is an important part of HAHS and our other Seeing Eye Dogs made a big impact on our school. Many of our teachers and students love Paul. Mrs. McCarthy says “that having Paul around school has shown how students connect with each other and to him.” Students and staff can not be mad when they see him because he is always so happy. He brings so much positivity to our school. Many students have anxiety and Paul helps with that and cheers them up. Petting a dog (or cat) can lower blood pressure  and studies have been done showing they relieve stress, so that is what Paul contributes to HAHS.

Since Mrs. McCarthy is able to have Paul around school, that helps him with his training to be a Seeing Eye Dog. He gets to practice walking in crowded hallways, listens to bells and alarms going off and also gets to experience a working environment.

Mrs. Bowen says, “Paul is a great dog but also a nice distraction throughout the day.”

Over the summer Paul had some excitement with Mrs. Ponter, he got to go on walks, and take some rides on the golf cart and boat. He also made some new human friends and dog friends. Paul is an amazing soul to visit when students and staff need to destress and rejuvenate. Hamburg is so lucky to be able to work with the Seeing Eye because most schools do not have that opportunity.
