Senior Spotlight: Halle Gerner

Eliza Hunsicker

Halle Gerner is one of many seniors who is excited about her upcoming graduation. Her life after high school has her excited to meet new people and experience new things that living in Hamburg does not offer. Halle is excited to start college because many people say “college years are some of the best years of your life.”

Halle is furthering her academic and athletic career at Lebanon Valley College (LVC), which is about 45 minutes away from Hamburg. She is starting at the end of August 2019 and will be playing for the school’s softball team.

Deciding on a college can be scary, but Halle knew this was where she wanted to be. The school’s softball coach recruited her, which is how she found out about this school in the first place. Not only did the chance to continue playing softball draw her to LVC, but knowing she wanted to be in the medical field and discovering the Physical Therapy program at Lebanon Valley, really helped her make up her mind.

Tuition scares many students during the college application process, but Halle has found scholarships to help her get a $60,000 a year tuition down to $30,000 a year. Halle recommends to anyone applying to college soon to “apply for scholarships and try to do good in school because it is very beneficial!”

Although Halle is excited to go away to college, she is also nervous about a few things. She explained that her main worries are “being away from my pets and family and living on my own.” Luckily, Halle has already picked her roommate and has met others who will be attending LVC in August through a Facebook page for all incoming freshman.

Overall, Halle is thrilled to be starting college at her first choice school. She is happy that she is going here because “nothing compares to the way LVC makes me feel!”
