A former student, Ms. Heitmann, has returned to Hamburg Area High School, to take over the role of Marching Band Director this year. Using her role models, her past music teachers, she is hoping that she will enjoy this year. She is excited to be back and see the school again and is looking forward to the football games.
Ms. Heitmann was a former student who played the violin and later on, the saxophone. When she graduated in 2020, she went to Lebanon Valley College. After this, she decided to take the role as a color guard instructor. During the summer, she was asked if she could co-direct the Marching Band. Now, she is happy to give the marching band a chance to play and have a season. Students, such as Phalene Hoppes, said that she is excited for this year and to learn about what Ms. Heitmann has to offer.
Ms. Heitmann is excited to make brand new memories this year. Her favorite memory so far is the September 26 game. She says “We had an unexpected band war after we played Land of 1000 and we won! It was a nostalgic moment for me, and the kids had a blast and were ecstatic when we won!” She is hoping to make more memories as the year progresses.
Ms. Heitmann is hoping to get as much information and songs out there as possible. She has so much to teach them in a small amount of time. She is hoping to teach the Marching Band about new kinds of music, new notes and new patterns this year. She is hoping to also learn about her students as well and learn some new teaching techniques for her later seasons.
