Mrs. Salomonsen is our new emotional support teacher. She attended Clarion University, where she got her degree in sociology, and she will be going back to get her masters in special education.
In her free time she enjoys spending time watching her tv shows, especially medical dramas. She also likes going on walks and spending time taking care of her family. With these hobbies and responsibilities, Mrs. Salomonsen’s days are full.
She was inspired to become an emotional support teacher since her background mainly dealt with mental health. She is eager to help many students and strengthen connections all around. She says, “The importance of my job is connecting students with teachers or any other help they may need for their problems.”
Mrs. Salomonsen is excited for this year and is looking forward to pep rallies, student interactions, fall fest, spirit days, and other activities connecting and supporting students. While enjoying all these fun activities, she plans to make the high school safe by enforcing necessary rules, giving all needed support and attention for problems, listening to everyone, making sure they feel like they have a safe place to go to for anything, and giving them the needed connections to help make them succeed.
Mr. Adams states that, “She has a ton of experience in the job, and she is learning the benefits and challenges of being a teacher.” He believes that she is excited to become a difference maker and help as much as she can. He says one of her strong suits is working with others and her approaches on problems. “She always approaches problems and time with others as a servant.” Meaning she wants to serve the people who need it, and really work everything out. She’s looking to improve sovereignty and independence throughout the whole building. Mr. Adams also says she teaches students to handle things in small doses. Using lifting as an example, lifting starts off slow with little to no weight, and as someone starts to grow the weight gets heavier, and they will get stronger. Now putting that into a teaching perspective, Mrs. Salomonsen will help students get stronger by starting with the little things and working their way up to the bigger things eventually solving and working out the big problems.
