On September 27, Penn State held the “greatest show in college sports.” The Penn State White Out is one of the most attended football games for college football and for the school itself. This is a school tradition that has been held since 2004, and so many more to come. The White Out is the most spirited game for PSU football. This year’s attendance was over 111,000 people. This game was the biggest game of the week, so College Gameday was there as well. This is a show that goes around to the biggest game of ranked teams for the week and will stream live on ESPN for the morning of the game.
This year the number two ranked Penn State Nittany Lions played number six ranked Oregon Ducks. These two teams have not played each other very often, so this was a big game to watch. The last time the two teams played was during the 2024 season for the Big 10 Championship. Oregon won this game with a score of 45-37. Being that Oregon won last year, meant that this game would be huge.
Both teams came out and ultimately did their best, but it was the Oregon Ducks that came out on top. The Ducks won in double overtime with a score of 30-24. This game got very interesting during the fourth quarter when Penn State tied the game at 17. The game went back and forth for a bit until Drew Allar threw an interception to allow the Ducks to be victorious. Many people including myself were absolutely shocked when this happened because of the high hopes of winning. Since losing the game, Penn State has dropped to number seven, but Oregon increased to number two in all of college football.
Some Hamburg students including myself, Tia Adam, Molly Krick, and Owen Bentz were just a few of the many people who were in attendance at the game. Former Hamburg graduate Brady Breininger, was also at the game. This was not the first White Out for many besides Tia. She had such a great time at the game. Her favorite part of the day was during the fourth quarter. “This was when PSU started to score and overtime when it was getting close. Also when the Nittany Lion had a clothing change and performed a dance with the Lionets,” said Tia.
Molly’s favorite part of the day was just spending time with the people she loves. I also agree with her because spending the day with family and friends just makes it so much more fun. Another thing would also be “the energy of the game and how the stadium is a thrill,” said Molly. Owens favorite part of his day was getting to walk around town. I also really enjoyed watching the Penn State dance team perform pregame, as well as during the game. They are all such talented dancers.
I think we can all agree that the ending was not what we hoped it would be. Many people including us felt disappointed, shocked, and even frustrated with how the game ended. Penn State games are so much fun, but there is nothing quite like a White Out. The atmosphere is just way better than an average football game and everyone is so much more hyped and ready to have a great time. We all agree that we will most definitely go to more White Outs in the future because they are just such an incredible experience.
