Field of Screams is a haunted attraction located in Mountville, Pennsylvania. There are four main attractions at FOS: the Haunted Hayride, Den of Darkness, Frightmare Asylum, and Nocturnal Wasteland. On most nights, tickets for each individual attraction is $18, besides the Haunted Hayride, which is $23. There are other combos if visitors want to do more than one attraction. These include the double combo, which is $35 for any two attractions, the triple combo for $38, and the scream pass, which includes all four attractions, for $40. Visitors can also choose to do a VIP upgrade, which varies in price depending on the day people decide to go. The Frightmare Asylum and Den of Darkness are both open rain or shine.
The Nocturnal Wasteland is a walking trail and is the only one that is outside. It takes place in Shantytown which appears to be rundown and abandoned. As visitors walk through the woods they will experience abandoned buses and planes, a swamp with hidden creatures lurking, and will be able to walk above the haunted hayride and observe the scene below. Scare actors are seen wearing gas masks and makeup to make them appear radioactive. They may grab out at visitors from their hiding places and will definitely jumpscare those walking through the attraction.
The Frightmare Asylum is another walk through attraction and is indoors, standing at four stories tall. As visitors walk through the asylum, they may see people bent like contortionists or moving around frantically in a seemingly panicked state. The people inside consist mainly of patients and doctors and the doctors are normally conducting experiments or special types of therapies on the patients. There are many flashing lights in this attraction as well as tight spaces visitors need to squeeze through. As visitors exit, actors are waiting with chainsaws in hand and will chase them out of the attraction, sometimes even as far as to the entrance of Field of Screams.
The Haunted Hayride is a classic attraction at FOS. The hayride lasts about 25-30 minutes and takes visitors through numerous stops along the way. These stops include mutant creatures, butchers, clowns, and crazy hillbillies. These stops include wild fire stunts, and props that drop from above. The scare actors hop on the hayride and get in visitors’ faces as well as scare them with their chainsaws. The Haunted Hayride is a must-see attraction at Field of Screams.
Lastly, the Den of Darkness is the second indoor walk through attraction and is three and a half stories tall. Visitors are escorted through the main entrance and are greeted by the occupants of the house, who are very excited to have guests. As visitors walk through the house, they will have to crawl through a crawlspace with no lights on and limbs lying across the floor. At the end of this attraction there are also chain wielding actors ready to chase and scare visitors all throughout the area.
Field of Screams also has other activities, such as games, food and drinks, live music, a free photo booth, a souvenir shop, ax throwing, and escape rooms. FOS should be on everyone’s bucket list this fall since they keep raising the bar every year and always keep the scares up.
