Being a substitute is not an easy job, and taking over for a teacher is no easy task. The expectation is at an all-time high, but Mr. Wessner is not just an ordinary substitute teacher. He has a game plan when showing up to class every day, making sure everyone is going to learn. He wants the kids to have fun with the subjects and for them to work together as a team.
Mr. Wessner is putting his maximum effort into the school year, maintaining an effective routine for himself and his students. The first goal is to make the effort and try to make an impact on students. He is building a connection with the students, allowing for a positive impact on all he is teaching. As well, he appreciates group projects, granting freedom and teamwork from classmates. They build a liking for the subject and the hard work they put into the project. Overall, these are perfect assignments for all the students to participate in and get out of their comfort zone.
The final idea behind Mr. Wessner’s teaching is having fun with the subject. The key to a successful classroom is to teach with excitement and thrill for the students to grasp the subject they are learning. That is what teaching is all about, with those moments always standing out. Those are Mr. Wessner’s main goals and priorities while substituting at Hamburg Area High School, and he is trying his best for the students to succeed.
Mr. Wessner decided to become a teacher out of his passion for learning and a way of giving back to the community. He chose social studies with eagerness to teach about history, to learn from the mistakes of many. He started college at Lehigh Carbon Community College and transferred to Kutztown University. Some hobbies he enjoys outside of school are spending time outdoors, hiking, and playing video games.
