Summer is over, and school is now getting started for the school year. With this, Hamburg Area High School Musical needs planning. For it to be successful in November, the Directors have been working rather hard to make sure there is a safe, fun, and learning environment for everyone involved. Congratulations to the High School cast of Mary Poppins the Musical!
Mr. Rothermel, Hamburg’s new director, has been doing a lot behind the scenes. “As a Director, the first step I take when preparing a musical is to read and listen to each word, the story. Theatre to me is grounded in the intentionality of bringing the story to life on stage, and to do so, I have to understand the story in its entirety. I analyze the characters, the environment, the themes, the conflicts and relationships, and begin to come up with a vision for how we can share that story for today’s audience,” he said.
Riley Mohn, Hamburg’s stage manager, is also doing a lot for this year’s music. This is her senior year of high school, and she has been working hard. She has to attend every rehearsal, write down all stage, acting, lighting, and sound notes to make sure everything runs smoothly. “As stage manager, I just ask that everyone attend rehearsals. Would say that helping absent people is the hardest part,” Mohn said.
The Director, Mr. Rothermel, also said, “Be present. Enjoy the creative process. Enjoy the time with your fellow ensemble members and being a part of sharing our unique telling of Mary Poppins.”
Show Dates: November 21,22, and 23.
