It is the start of the new school year, which means a fresh new batch of freshmen who all share the same opinions on the same topics. Starting fresh in these school walls can be harsh, confusing, and frustrating until figuring out where certain locations are. Many students were nervous but excited. The school’s layout is a challenge to new students. “My least favorite place to travel from is gym because it’s on the whole other side of the school. Plus, you need to change out of your gym clothes and you barely get time to do that before the bell rings,” shared Teagan Gatley. The school’s layout is quite small compared to other schools, although, while walking though the halls, it seems like a maze at times.
On the other hand, Kimberly Summers shared the same opinion, “Personally, the layout of the school is a bit complex for newcomers, but once you start to get a general idea of where your main classes are, everything just clicks together.” A lot of students shared the same issues about the locker sizes compared to the middle school locker sizes.
“Honestly I think the lockers are way too small. I have an empty backpack and I can barely fit it in there. Though the small compartment on top does help a bit.” Kylie Werley added, there are some days where students are in such a rush that the small lockers are such a hassle rather than a blessing. Kim Summers also commented that,” I hate how small the lockers are, because surely you can expand it even just for me to at least actually fit my backpack into it. The space is irritating, especially when you have a locker next to someone.”
Another massive difference from middle school is different lunch periods. Jade Faust said, “I went to the wrong lunch,” while in contrast, Teagan shared that, “I think we should keep the separate lunches but change it so that b has all Ninth and tenth graders and a has all the 12 and 11 graders, this way you’re more likely to be with your friends and have a group to sit with.” Although it may seem scary to share opinions out loud, it is a good reminder that the upperclassmen share or have been through the same feelings one might be experiencing. Do not be afraid to ask for help or assistance this year. Good luck freshmen!
