Though students primarily chew gum that comes in squishy stick form, gum does come in many other shapes. One of those shapes that gum comes in is a gumball, which is a hard candy coating typically flavored differently with other colors, that has gum at its center. This gum is typically sold individually at gumball machines at stores or restaurants to be a quick sweet treat for those consuming.
Mrs. McCarthy-Wright has a gumball machine at home, and she brought in her older Dubble Bubble gumballs so students could eat them before they go bad. She has a small container filled with various colors and sizes of gumball, and she originally had a full container. However, since her students enjoy chewing gum during class, her container is only half as full. Based on the colors left in the container, the blue, green, and pink ones were eaten. The only colors left in the container are red, yellow, orange, white, and some purples. According to the packaging for different Dubble Bubble gumballs, the pink ones are Strawberry, the blue ones are Blueberry, the green ones are Lemon-Lime, the yellow ones are Banana, the orange ones are Orange, the Red ones are Cherry, the purple ones are Grape, and the white ones are Pineapple.
Maddie Handwerk, a Junior at Hamburg, preffered to eat the pink and blue gumballs compared to the other ones. She said “The pink and blue ones tasted sweeter than the other ones.” Joshua Castro, another Junior, says “Gumballs are unhealthy and should not be given out.” Zach Spatz says, “The blue and the light green ones are my favorite. They seem sweeter to me than the others.” These three students believe that some gumballs are sweeter than others, and they are primarily sugar.
