The 2005 movie of Pride and Prejudice recently celebrated its 20th anniversary by returning to theaters April 18 through April 24. Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by Jane Austen that was turned into a film a couple of times. The most popular one was the 2005 version. Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen starred in it as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. It is one of the earlier examples of the enemies to lovers trope since the two often do not agree or get along. Their chemistry on screen and the way they portray and embrace their characters is what makes the movie so great. It even feels like it was directed by Jane Austen herself.
Many fans were excited and went to see the movie and were surprised to see most theaters almost empty. Many believe that this was due to the fact that it was not very known that it was returning to theaters since it was not heavily advertised. The showtimes were also at odd hours, for instance, some showtimes were around noon and other times in the middle of the day. Others were the last movies shown during the night around 9:00 pm and even a little later.
Regardless of how many people went to see it and how much attention it got, Pride and Prejudice is a fantastic romance story, and the movie is a nicely portrayed period piece and is a great piece of cinema as well as Jane Austen’s original movie being a great piece of literature.
