Hamburg Area High School held its annual honors breakfast on Friday, May 2, 2025. The top 20 students from each grade level and their two guests are invited to attend this event. Preparing for this event is a group effort as everyone in the office helps to plan and coordinate. Mrs. Bowen sends letters home to announce this achievement, gets the certificates, and helps coordinate the breakfast. Mrs. Wyles-Herbert, Mrs. Machamer, and Mrs. Fink in the counseling office calculate grades and ensure that the top 20 students in each grade are accurate. The presentation of the awards is handled by Mr. McGinley and Mrs. Fink.
The food service department helps make the food and holds this breakfast in both cafeterias. Mr. Shefter and Mrs. Eisenhower helped make this event possible and are very flexible with the menu and number of guests. They always work hard to make the breakfast a success even when Lunch Hero Day falls on the same day as the event as it did this year and last year.
Students reported to the auditorium directly after homeroom. They were separated by grade and put into alphabetical order to make the acceptance of awards easier. After Mr. McGinley explained the expectations and order of events, all of the students went to the cafeterias to meet their guests and eat breakfast.
Assistant Principal, Mrs. Fink thinks it is important to hold events like this so that students who have high academic achievements are recognized for their hard work. The high school holds other events, like the Sports Awards Assembly, to recognize the achievements of all students. Success in one area, whether athletics or academics, is not more valuable than the other.
Senior Erica Gerner attended the honors breakfast as a sophomore and senior. The high school did not hold this event during her freshman year due to COVID-19, but she received top 20 that year as well. She enjoyed the breakfast and ceremony both years that she went and appreciates that the high school honors this achievement. Erica’s favorite part is sitting in the auditorium and watching every student called on stage.
